FASTag Annual Pass 2026: ₹3,075 Price, 200 Trips, Rules and Is It Worth It?

The FASTag annual pass is a prepaid toll pass for private cars, jeeps and vans that costs ₹3,075 for FY 2026–27 (it launched at ₹3,000) and covers toll at about 1,150 National Highway and National Expressway fee plazas for one year or 200 trips, whichever comes first. That works out to roughly ₹15–20 per toll crossing, far below typical toll rates of ₹60–₹300 or more per plaza. It is bought through the Rajmargyatra app or the NHAI website, links to your existing FASTag and activates within about two hours. It does not cover state-run toll plazas.

Here is how it works, who it suits and how to decide whether to buy it.

How the annual pass works

• Eligible vehicles: private, non-commercial cars, jeeps and vans with a valid, active FASTag linked to the correct vehicle registration number.
• Price: ₹3,075 for FY 2026–27 (revised from ₹3,000 from 1 April 2026).
• Validity: one year from activation or 200 trips, whichever comes first.
• Where it works: about 1,150 fee plazas on National Highways and National Expressways.
• Where it may not work: state highways, state expressways and roads tolled by state agencies or private operators outside the NHAI scheme. Normal FASTag balance is used there.
• Renewal: after 200 trips or one year, you can buy the pass again.

Your existing FASTag continues to work. The annual pass is an add-on to it, not a new tag.

How trips are counted

• Open toll plazas (most national highways): each crossing through a plaza counts as one trip. A return journey through the same plaza counts as two.
• Closed expressways with entry and exit tolling: one entry and exit pair usually counts as one trip.

So a daily commute that crosses one plaza each way uses two trips a day.

Is it worth it? A quick test

Divide ₹3,075 by the number of toll crossings you expect in a year on eligible plazas. If your average toll per crossing is higher than the result, the pass saves money.

Example 1: weekly highway trip

A family drives Pune–Mumbai and back every weekend, crossing two NHAI-eligible plazas each way (check which plazas on your route are covered).

1. Crossings per weekend: 4.
2. Crossings per year: about 200. The pass lasts roughly a year.
3. Normal tolls at an average of ₹150 per crossing: about ₹30,000 a year.
4. With the pass: ₹3,075.

Saving: well over ₹25,000 a year, if all those plazas accept the pass.

Example 2: occasional road trips

A driver makes six long trips a year, crossing about ten eligible plazas each way.

1. Crossings per year: about 120.
2. Normal tolls at ₹120 average: about ₹14,400.
3. With the pass: ₹3,075.

Saving: around ₹11,000.

Example 3: city driver, rare highway use

A driver crosses a national highway toll only a few times a year, maybe 10 crossings at ₹80.

1. Normal tolls: about ₹800.
2. With the pass: ₹3,075.

Important: check your route’s plazas

The biggest catch is that not every toll plaza accepts the annual pass. Some expressways and roads are tolled by state bodies or operate under different arrangements. Before buying, list the plazas on your regular routes and check them in the Rajmargyatra app. If most of your tolls are on state-run roads, the pass may not help much.

How to buy the annual pass

1. Check your FASTag. It must be active, linked to your vehicle’s registration number, properly fixed on the windscreen and not blacklisted.
2. Open the Rajmargyatra app or the NHAI website.
3. Enter your vehicle number and FASTag details.
4. Pay ₹3,075 online.
5. Activation: the pass is usually activated within about two hours after payment and verification.
6. Track trips in the app to see how many remain.

Common problems and fixes

• FASTag not linked properly: update KYC and vehicle details with your FASTag issuer before buying.
• Tag loosely fixed or kept in hand: tags must be fixed on the windscreen. Loose tags can be blacklisted.
• Multiple tags for one vehicle: only one active tag per vehicle is allowed. Close extra tags.
• Pass not recognised at a plaza: the plaza may not be covered. Your normal FASTag balance will be used.
• Wrong vehicle class: check that your tag is issued for the correct vehicle class.

Keep a small balance in your FASTag wallet for non-eligible plazas.

Divide ₹3,075 by your expected number of eligible toll crossings in a year. If that figure is lower than your average toll per crossing, the pass saves money. For most regular highway users, it does.

Planning a road trip with the pass

The annual pass makes road trips on national highways cheaper, but it is only one part of trip costs. Fuel is usually the biggest expense. 4. Check your tyres, brakes and fluids before leaving.

FASTag and car ownership changes

Can I transfer my annual pass to another car? No. It is linked to the vehicle registration number on the FASTag.

What if I do not use all 200 trips in a year? The pass expires after one year regardless. Unused trips do not carry over.

Toll rates on national highways are usually revised every year, typically from 1 April. As tolls rise, the fixed-price annual pass becomes more valuable for regular users. Even with the pass price itself revised to ₹3,075 for FY 2026–27, frequent highway travellers still save heavily compared with paying each toll.

Safety tip for highway drivers

Toll savings make highway trips cheaper, but fatigue and speed make them risky. Take a break every two hours, avoid driving late at night when tired, and keep a safe distance from trucks.

1. List the toll plazas on your regular routes.
2. Confirm in the Rajmargyatra app that they accept the annual pass.
3. Estimate your yearly crossings.
4. Check your FASTag is active, linked and fixed on the windscreen.

If your plans change and you stop driving on highways, simply do not renew when the pass ends. There is no long-term commitment, which makes it low risk to try for a year.
