How the resale estimate works

Cars in India typically lose 15–20% of their value in the first year and around 8–12% a year after that. This calculator starts from that pattern and adjusts it for brand demand, fuel type (diesel cars in Delhi-NCR lose value faster because of the 10-year rule), how many kilometres you drive and the car's condition. The result is a planning estimate, not a dealer quote.

How to beat the estimate

A full authorised service history, a clean interior, no accident claims and a neutral colour can put your car at the top of the market range. Our car resale value tips list the habits that add ₹30,000 to ₹1 lakh or more when you sell.

Use it before you buy

Depreciation is often the biggest cost of owning a new car, bigger than fuel for many owners. Compare two cars' expected values after five years alongside their running costs from the fuel cost calculator and EMIs from the car EMI calculator. Our guide to choosing the right variant explains why mid variants usually resell best.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a car depreciate each year in India?

Typically 15–20% in the first year, then about 8–12% a year after that, depending on brand, model, fuel type and condition. After five years, most cars are worth about 45–55% of their original price.

Which cars lose value slowest?

Popular Maruti Suzuki, Toyota and Hyundai models, and in-demand SUVs like the Creta and Thar, usually hold value best.

How accurate is this estimate?

It is a planning estimate based on typical Indian market patterns. Actual resale depends on condition, kilometres, colour, city, service history and demand for the specific model.

Results are estimates for planning. Taxes, rates and prices vary by state, lender and dealer, so confirm final figures before you sign anything.
